Donor Spotlight
We are grateful for those who have contributed to the HBMC Foundation. Here are a few of the individuals who have made a significant difference in the lives of the patients at our hospital and our community.
Hand Knitted Baby Beanies
Char C.
“My Calsey was a very giving person who wore beanies every day and I’m thankful to have the opportunity to donate in his memory; knitting the beanies helps me to deal with my loss.”
Char Awa Cockett, holding Aria Method, sits with a photo of Char’s son, Calsey, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 31.
Annual Campaign
Bill & Candace M.
"Supporting healthcare is a very firmly imbedded tradition in Bill’s family. His mother was one of eight children born to a Korean immigrant and a “picture bride”. Her early years were in Kealakekua, living in a coffee shack with a dirt floor. Health care was not readily available for her family in this rural community. Eleanor had rheumatic fever as a child and the resulting heart condition eventually took her life. But from this very poor family came two Registered Nurses, an optometrist, and a dentist!
After taking her training at Queen’s Medical Center, Eleanor met her future husband while working as a public health nurse in Honokaa. They started their family in Hilo where she worked at Hilo Hospital for many years, retiring as a Supervising Nurse.
Bill and I have been donating to the foundation for many years because we believe in the importance of having quality health care available to our community. Being able to see the results of our donations inspires us to continue our family’s tradition of supporting the health of our community."
